Bucket List Checked!! It was truly an amazing experience to learn about the elephants an to be able to walk along side them and feed them! Most of the elephants in these tourists attractions are beaten, chained, and pinched until they have no will left. If you are able to ride a elephant, please believe they are being abused. The Elephant Sanctuary saves them for all of that! They really are gentle giants and should always be treated as such!
A Little History
The Elephant Jungle Sanctuary is an ethical and sustainable eco-tourism project located about only 60km from the city of Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. Founded in July 2014, it is a joint initiative between members of the Karen hill-tribes and Chiang Mai locals who were concerned about the welfare of elephants in Thailand!! I’m so glad these two communities could actually come together for a great cause and save lives!
The Elephant Jungle Sanctuary hope is to lead by example, and contribute to a positive change in the perception of elephants; to witness a future where elephants are not ridden, poached, overworked, or abused, and are instead treated with care, love, and respect. The Elephant Jungle Sanctuary project also provides many Karen people with employment, education, and financial support.
